Bloom-Topia Mini Quilt Finish

Hello Everyone! I hope your weekend is going well. I’ve been pretty busy this week finishing the project bag for Jacquelynne Steves upcoming Block of the Month and finishing the Bloom-Topia cross stitch from Fat Quarter Shop.

I made my stitched piece into a mini quilt that will fit on my Ackfeld stand. I knew when I started the cross stitch in February, that I would probably finish it this way. Bloom-Topia was a free stitch-a-long with FQS every two weeks for 6 months. They did ask that you to make a donation to Make a Wish at the start which I did. The charts are still available if you are interested.

I used my own floss selection, but kept to the same color family as the original. The only other change I made was that I only used two colors in the border instead of four.

Here are the statistics:

  • Started: 2-4-20
  • Finished: 7-30-20
  • Fully Finished: 7-31-20
  • Days stitched: 18
  • Fabric: 32 ct Star Sapphire Linen by Wichelt, stitched 2 over 2
  • Floss: DMC from Corey Yoder’s curated thread pack by FQS
  • Inner/Outer border and binding: Sunnyside Up by Corey Yoder for Moda
  • Backing: Prairie by Corey Yoder for Moda

I am really very happy with the finish. My inspiration fabric for the colors is the border fabric. You can see a better picture of the fabric and the exact colors I used here.

To hang Bloom-Topia on the stand, I made a little hanging sleeve and inserted it when I added the binding.

I think the colors in Bloom-Topia lend themselves more towards spring, but Corey’s fabrics and colors go well with my Sherri and Chelsi Wall, so I’ll enjoy it for a little while until it’s time to change out for fall. Unfortunately, July didn’t get to stay out very long.

That’s it for now. This week I have to write the directions for making the project bag so that will keep me busy. I’ll be basing it on my Vinyl Project Bag Tutorial, but because there is an applique front instead of the vinyl, all new pictures need to be edited.

I hope you have a great week, stay safe and well. Thanks for stopping by!
